HOW TO UPHOLSTER AN OPEN CHAIR BACK step II
When I last left you we had just finished upholstering the back side of a chair.

Now its time for the filling and front fabric.
Many different materials can be used to fill in the back cushioning,
but these chairs originally had 1" foam in the back rest so I chose that.
Mark out your shape and cut it to fit.
I then trim the front edge off the foam to soften the look under the upholstery.
You are getting excited, I can tell.
Time to secure your front fabric.
As mentioned in Part I, I use a hand held hand, arm powered stapler.
There is no extra room with this install for pneumatic staplers with the safety feature.
Before you start make sure to fold over the excess edge from the back fabric, as seen above.
First staple ...

As in PART I when you secured your back fabric,
you are going to make another cross when you start to staple the front fabric in place.
Hold the fabric taught each time you shoot a staple in.
Continue folding the edge of the back fabric inside to hide it as you go along.
continue securing the fabric along the edge with your staple gun.
Now is the time to decide if the fabric looks good and tight in the right places.
I didnt like how this area looked so I remove one staple, pulled it tighter, and re secured it.
Take your tiny scissors and trim the excess fabric quite uniform at 1/2" long.
Small scissors are easier to use in close and tight to the frame.
This bit of excess is going to be folded over and glued.
Here you can see how important it is to have a uniformed edge for the fold over and gluing.
This edge is going to be covered with your trim. Secure your trim / gimp with a hot glue gun.
I like using a wider trim so in case I made a boo boo I have some room for errors.
So far I have finished 2 of the four chairs I have.
Each being done in a different finish, the first one was the Pale Provence Chair
and the second was the Glamorous Grey chair.
Im still finishing the last 2 of these chairs I have.
One is bright distressed white and the other is going to be a warm vintage white.

front of her gorgeous mirror! Love this. Had to copy. She gives the how-to's.
I would kill for this mirror! She did a beautiful job turning it silver.
I hate to show mine next to hers! ;(
Oh well, it's my first. got all the bulbs at Big Lots.

My Woodworking Shop Tour
I figured I would do a little shop tour video for everyone! I know I enjoy seeing other peoples shops to get ideas and learn what works for them so that maybe I can make my workspace a little better. I know I really ejoy showing my small woodworking shop to any guests we may have over, I love explaining what each tool does and how and why I built my different jigs, storage systems, and shop furniture things. Maybe my video gave you some inspiration or an idea of a way you can improve your small shop. If anyone has any questions please feel free to let me know and I will be happy to answer them!

HELLO BIRDIE hand made clock
I built this clock from scrap wood and used parts from a broken thrift store clock.
Every time I started to work on this clock I ran into another issue.
I had to let the wood acclimatize, drilling out a washer, figure out the batteries
I was using were almost dead, to deciding to re-painting over the first image I didnt like.
There are all sorts of bird images on the internet to take inspiration from and work
with so keep looking till you find the one that makes you happy. In the end Im over
joyed with this handsome cutie that I hand painted in Emperors Silk.
Not every projects works the first, second, or even third time I try it but Im always up for the challenge. Think about this simple little clock and the weeks of trouble I had before giving
up on a project, rethink it, walk away if need be, but make sure to try again.
P.S. I will not be teaching you how to build a clock!
I do not have enough experience or patience for it.
MUD ROOM MAKE OVER
Our mudroom had been consumed by water bottles, pop cans, discarded boxes, and all the other
crap I didnt want to see in the main part of the house. Time had come to reclaim this room and one
morning of surfing Pinterest got me motivated to start. Type in "AWESOME MUDROOMS" and see what you get.
Day 1, was a cooler morning as it had rained the night before. I was feeling the need to stay inside,
do some cleaning and eventually a great deal of purging. I had plenty of plastic bins that I could
fill and they would work just fine outdoors. So when George got home he had a stack of full bins
waiting for him to take to the shed. Thank you honey do! The shed will be made over some other day.
Cleaning up the clutter went quickly also thanks to George dealing with the bottles the week before.
This room is a small addition (5.5ft x 7ft) built around the back door of the trailer. It is not heated
and in the winter it is cold. Keeping shoes and coats in there is off limits. I couldnt find the right use
for the room, until now ...

Welcome to the new Etsy Shop!
Handles, knobs, hooks, and castors dont get too upset when they are a bit cold. All the Etsy stock has
been over whelming the other rooms in the house. I was tripping over bags sitting in the living room,
sharing space in my dressing room, and the worst was giving up the kitchen island to constant piles of
hardware in some state of being finished. Now its all contained in this one space, even the work surface.

in almost every room. Once the room started to come together with the bench I designed and built, I
wanted to add a soft edge for when we work in there so I hit Home Sense and bought this rug.
The rug is the only item purchased for this makeover, everything else we had.
The window on the back wall looks out to a storage area so I created a new view with a vintage
mirrored window, it makes the room feel bigger and reflects more of the light from the chandelier.

Friday wrap up The salsa bowl is finished
Hi Everyone,
Well Friday is here and its cool and breezy outside-another perfect day for wood turning.
Ive finished the hickory bowl and I posted pictures earlier this week. The oil and beeswax finish looks lovely on the bowl. It really heightens the grain and the colors and Im very happy with the way it looks.
The salsa bowl dried well with a minimum of distortion. Ive finished sanding it and given it a preliminary layer of finish. Here it is:
The only bowl I have left to do is the beech bowl. Its still drying out and Ill take another look at it tomorrow.
In the meantime, I have to install my new bandsaw blade and gear up to make several tea boxes for a couple of friends as thank you gifts. As soon as I get that blade installed, Ill send pictures of what Im up to.
